My Sisters’ Place 5K

The 3rd Annual My Sister’s Place 5K presented by Hartford Toyota took place on Sunday, June 12th , on the beautiful campus of the University of Hartford. Over 200 runners and walkers came out to support this great organization and their many good works.  My Sister’s Place provides aid to women and their children who are victims of domestic violence.

The day’s activities began with a kid’s fun run. After a brief warm up, the kids all turned in a winning race. The 5K Run and 2 Mile Walk followed. First to cross the finish line was Shane Leighton from West Hartford in 18:36, followed by Justin Perugini from Plantesville in 19:06 and Tom Leonard from North Granby in 19:30.

The first female to cross the finish line was Stacey Clark from Berlin in 22:24. Olivia Natale from South Glastonbury in 23:57 and Ella Szczepanski from Farmington were second and third. Team awards were also presented. A total of twelve teams competed. Team Qualidigm won the Most Spirited Award and Hartford Toyota won the Most generous Award. The M Power Kids team won both the Fastest Team and the Biggest Team.IMG_2063

My Sister’s Place wants to thank the many sponsors who made this event possible, particularly the presenting sponsor, Hartford Toyota. And the University of Hartford who generously made their grounds and resources available for this annual event. Plans are already underway for the 2017 race.

Enfield Montessori Jubilee Run

The 2nd Annual Race to Feed the Hungry, hosted by the Enfield Montessori School, went off on a picture perfect spring day. The day’s activities started with a Kid’s Fun Run, where 25 future Olympians crossed the finish line; all winners. The 5K Road Race and 2 Mile Walk followed. IMG_1763

The first 5K finisher was Michael Centore in 18:47, followed by David Einsiedel in 19:07 and 11 year old Zachary Stoddard in 22:26. The first female finisher was Michelle Repass in 23:20. Mackenzie Pappas and Sarah Fearon followed  in 2nd and 3rd. Finishing in 8th place overall was 71 year old Bob Ward, less than a year after suffering serious injuries after being struck by a car while jogging. An amazing comeback.

The Enfield Montessori Race to Feed the Hungry lived up to its billing, as runners and walkers filled boxes of food to donate to those in need. It is hoped that this annual event will continue to grow and make a difference in ending hunger.

Seeds of Hope Results

It could not have been a nicer day on Saturday, April 30 for the inaugural Seeds of Hope 5K. The

5K Run and 2 Mile Walk on the Airline Trail in East Hampton was held by the Congregational

Church of East Hampton in support of their Seeds of Hope mission. This project aids one of the

most impoverished communities in America, the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

The overall winner was Kevin McDonald of Norwich in 19:58 and the first female finisher was

Annalisa Paltauf of New Haven in 20:14.

Cupid Made Me Do It 2016 Race Report & Results

The fourth running of the Cupid Made Me Do It 2 Mile Urban Challenge went off under clear skies and a relatively balmy 17 degrees. Part of the Romantic Willimantic Chocolate Festival, runners IMG_1028came from six states and throughout Connecticut to compete in this Valentine’s themed race. The course wound it’s way through downtown, crossing the Willimantic River four times past railroad yards and old mills, to the finish line behind Main St.

Results

The overall winner was Ryan Goyen from Manchester, finishing in 12:11, followed by David Drebsky of Plainview, NY and Willimantic Fire Chief, Marc Scrivener in 2nd and 3rd. The first female finisher was Cara Riley from Berlin. She was followed by Karen Houle from Danielson and Lisa Bonanni from Selden, NY. The award for most enthusiastic went to the members of the 169 Society who came out in force. After post-race activities, most runners stayed for the Chocolate Festival.
